National champion continues great form

1st December, Taipei: Newly-crowned national champion, Bernice Lim continued her fine form to take top spot in the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 11th Chinese Taipei International Open underway at Asian Olympic Bowling Alley in Taoyuan. Bernice posted an amazing 988 over the four-game qualifying round to lead team-mate, Tan Yan Ling in second with 872. Gina Lim joined her fellow-compatriots in fourth position registering 853.

Bernice, who was recently crowned national women champion, will be hoping to step up her form to bag the coveted ladies' crown during the masters finals this weekend. Fok Ka Wai and Teo Li Ying also did well to make the cut in seventh and tenth positions with 822 and 782.

Chen Hsiu-Lan topped the local pool with 858 ahead of Pan Yu-Fen in second with 856. Newcomer, Lo Yi-Ting tied third spot with Tang Ya-Chun on 831 as Chen Kuan-Ting completed the top 5 with 828.   In the Men's Open division, Justin Lim Chia Loong posted an impressive 917 to take up third spot behind leader, Rickle Kam of Hong Kong, who led with 944. Ex-national, Eric Lau of Hong Kong finished second with 929.

Ng Chiew Pang finished two spots behind Chia Loong in fifth with 865 while Justin Lim Chun Liang managed 796 for 12th position. Chun Liang will need to improve on his score in order to secure a spot in the finals.

World Men's Championship Trios bronze medalist, Cheng Hsing-Chao topped the local pool with a superb 971. Cheng led compatriots, Cheng Hsing-Yueh and Wu Hao-Ming in second and third positions with 918 and 906 respectively.   Qualifying ends Friday, December 3 and the Ladies' and Men's Open Masters finals will contested over two blocks of 8 games on December 4 and 5. The top 6 ladies and top 6 men will advance to the stepladder finals.
